Beer… taken to a new level

Kafe Belgie beer menu

Holland is definitely a country of beer drinkers.  The main Dutch beer brands are Grolsch, Heineken, and Amstel, and these are the ones that are exported globally and widely known abroad, but most Dutch people seem to think they are shit.

Aside from these big-label beers brewed by large multinationals, there are also a number of independent breweries, microbreweries, and regional beers. We also benefit from the proximity to Belgium, which is world-famous for its 800+ beers.

This is a photo of the beer menu at Kafe Belgie in Utrecht.  It is absolutely massive and covers the entire wall near the entrance.  They must have at least 200 different beers to choose from.  I had a Lindeman’s Kriek, a cherry beer.

About Home Strange Home

I first left the US in 1999, when I was 18 years old. Since then, I’ve spent 13 years living abroad - 3 in Canada, 7 in Europe, and 3 in Africa. Now I've finally returned to the US on a one-way plane ticket. I arrived home in late January 2014 and set foot in the US for the first time in nearly 2.5 years. In Home Strange Home, I blog about the ups and downs of my re-acculturation experience.
