Floating Coffeeshop

It's a boat... it's a plane... no, it's a coffeeshop!

Last night we went to a coffeeshop with a difference. There are plenty of coffeeshops in Holland, but this one was special – it is on a canal boat! (See my earlier post on coffeeshops for a primer.)

The perfect setting for a spliff and a coffee.

Serenely floating in a quiet canal in Utrecht is the Culture Boat Coffeeshop, a homey little place decorated with house plants, mis-matched wooden furniture, and Moroccan lamps. It has a hippie vibe, with ambient music playing, and is totally chilled out. What a beautiful place to have a smoke!

About Home Strange Home

I first left the US in 1999, when I was 18 years old. Since then, I’ve spent 13 years living abroad - 3 in Canada, 7 in Europe, and 3 in Africa. Now I've finally returned to the US on a one-way plane ticket. I arrived home in late January 2014 and set foot in the US for the first time in nearly 2.5 years. In Home Strange Home, I blog about the ups and downs of my re-acculturation experience.
